Cai’s Dim Sum Catering
Client Case Study | Small Business
Cai’s Dim Sum Catering is a small business located in Southern Vermont. They specialize in using local Vermont ingredients to make authentic Chinese food with roots in Sichuan and Shanghai cuisine.
In October of 2020 Cai’s Dim Sum Catering reached out to me for a total rebrand of their business in the hopes of driving more traffic to their website and gaining more customers though an updated online appearance.

Branding
I worked closely with the client to brainstorm a new look that would reflect the vibrancy and flavor of their food. A central theme which emerged was the importance of cooking and eating together as a family.
The process of making dumplings is an important tradition in Chinese culture. Dumplings symbolize good fortune and are often made as a celebratory meal. Dumplings are also the client’s most popular menu item and so two dumplings became the brand’s iconic representation.
These unique shades of primary colors create a distinct brand look for Cai’s Dim Sum Catering. Two tones of both yellow and blue become dynamic backdrops for the pictures of food on the website and in print.
We implemented these refreshed colors and logo into many forms of graphic design including, business cards, menu design, stickers, signage as well as on their new website.
Website Design
The main goal for the website was to tell the story of Cai’s Dim Sum Catering. Through colorful graphics and high quality photographs, a site visitor can get a sense of the faces behind the food as well as the mission and value of the business.
Mobile optimization is especially important for Cai’s Dim Sum Catering because a majority of online ordering customers search and order from their mobile devices.
Social Media templates
The brand identity I created for Cai’s Dim Sum Catering is reflected across the business’s social media accounts. This includes the usage of their brand colors, high quality photos of their menu items and the new logo.

Design for print
Even with the growing importance of online media for businesses, there is still value in having physical menus for customers to peruse.
It was important to me to still bring modern design sensibility to the printed menu and integrate access to the website using a QR code
